The West Coast of the country happens to be the rainiest pocket during the Southwest Monsoon period. In fact, the region is never absolutely quiet on any occasion. Rains of varied intensity occur over the entire stretch including the Konkan and Goa region, The Coastal Karnataka region as well as the state of Kerala.
The main reason due to which West Coast does record rainfall activity is the off-shore trough, which is a semi-permanent feature running all along the stretch during the Southwest Monsoon.

The topography of this stretch is such that the heights of the mountains vary between 4000 and 8000 feet with passes in between which generate small scale systems, causing heavy rains in pockets. Due to this, rainfall remains unevenly distributed throughout this area.
During the last few days, the West Coast has not remained very active and only moderate rains in a few areas with isolated heavy showers in some parts have been witnessed over this area.
During the next 48 hours, similar situation is expected to prevail along the West Coast with moderate rainfall occurring in the Konkan and Goa as well as North Coastal Karnataka region. Rains will remain light over Kerala.
On the other hand, rains are expected to pick up pace around the weekend i.e. around July 6 and 7 wherein heavy showers may be seen over Konkan and Goa and Coastal Karnataka. Meanwhile, rains will remain on the lower side for Kerala.
