Light to moderate rains have occurred over Odisha during the last 24 hours. In fact, since the commencement of Monsoon, weather of Odisha has not gone completely dry.

Moreover, on and off rains have been occurring over the state with occasional heavy spells. In the last 24 hours Angul received 25 mm of rain, Balasore 10 mm, Koraput 20 mm, Paradip 18 mm, Sambalpur 32.6 mm and Titlagarh saw 38 mm rains.

Any weather system such as cyclonic circulation or Low-Pressure Area which develops over west-central Bay of Bengal or Northwest Bay of Bengal affects Odisha.

Now, a Low-Pressure Area is expected to develop soon over Bay of Bengal. Due to its influence, we expect one or two heavy to very heavy spells over the state.

Thereafter, Low Pressure Area will move further west and rains will decrease over Odisha. Although intensity will decrease but light patchy rains will continue thereafter as well.

At present Odisha is rain surplus by 10%. By the end of the next week, we expect the rain surplus of West Odisha to increase even further.
