Rains to increase over Northeast India

Northeast India has started to see an increase in rains. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Pasighat recorded 95 mm of rains, North Lakhimpur 56 mm, Majbat 27 mm, Dibrugarh 22 mm, Imphal 13 mm, Golaghat 11 mm, Barapani 6 mm, and Pet Jorhat 6 mm.

Presently, the Monsoon troughline is running north of its position, closer to the foothills of the Himalayas. Whenever such a situation takes place, Northeast India sees heavy rains. In fact, generally also, Southwest Monsoon is kind to Northeast India resulting in heavy rains.

However, so far, most of the pockets of Northeast India are deficit including Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

However, now, for the next few days, we can expect rains to increase over Northeast India and continue for the next 3-4 days. Many parts are likely to see some heavy showers as well.
