On the last day, rains have increased marginally over Konkan which received scattered light to moderate rains. Whereas, light rains continued over Madhya Maharashtra and parts of Vidarbha. On the other hand, the weather of Marathwada remained mainly dry.
In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Mahabaleshwar recorded 43 mm of rains, Amravati 6 mm, Gondia 6 mm, Sangli 3 mm, Bramhapuri 3 mm, Kolhapur 2 mm, Nashik 2 mm, Mumbai 0.8 mm, Pune 0.2 mm and Dahanu received 0.1 mm of rains.
Now, under the influence of the depression, we expect, rains to increase over Vidarbha and parts of North Madhya Maharashtra. Places like Jalgaon, Malegaon which have been witnessing dry weather for the last many days may receive one or two spells of good rains.
The rain intensity over Konkan may also increase further. Isolated light rains may also occur over parts of Marathwada as well.
As on August 7, Konkan division is 14% rain surplus, Madhya Maharashtra 2% surplus, Vidarbha is rain deficient by 4% and Marathwada is rainfall deficit by 17%.
At this stage, let us see the impact of this weather on the agriculture belt of Maharashtra:
Farmers are advised to postpone irrigation over Konkan and North Madhya Maharashtra region. Farmers are also advised to go for the inter cultivation or hand weeding in the sown crop to avoid soil moisture loss.
Farmers are advised to spray pesticides to control sucking pests in groundnut. Due to scanty rainfall, farmers in Marathwada are advised to provide protective irrigation to the standing crops wherever available. For Konkan, draining of excess water from groundnut field and weeding is advocated.
