Rains to increase over Bhubaneswar, Puri, Cuttack, Raipur, Ambikapur

August 22, 2017 2:04 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Both the states of Chhattisgarh as well as Odisha have been receiving on and off rains. So much so that the region has not witnessed a complete dry spell for long. All thanks to the frequently developing weather systems in the Bay of Bengal as well as the repeated oscillation of the Axis of Monsoon trough.

The last 24 hours were also not different and scattered light rains with isolated moderate showers were recorded over both these states. However, the intensity of rainfall was much more over Odisha as compared to Chhattisgarh. Isolated showers were seen over Chattisgarh.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Bhawanipatna recorded a good 18 mm of rain, Cuttack 7 mm, Dhenkanal 3 mm, Keonjhargarh 1 mm, Koraput 6.2 mm, Ambikapur 0.4 mm, Jagdalpur 0.2 mm, and Raipur 1.4 mm.

These weather conditions can be attributed to the presence of the axis of Monsoon trough which is running from Gujarat to East Central Bay of Bengal across Odisha.

Now, the western arm of the axis of Monsoon trough is expected to shift in a northward direction. Also, the eastern arm will move towards the states of Chhattisgarh and Odisha.

Thus, rainfall activity of scattered light to moderate intensity is expected to occur over the cities of Puri, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Koraput, Raipur and Ambikapur. These areas will witness an increase in the Monsoon showers in the coming days.
