Monsoon showers have been playing wonders for the Northeastern states of the country and the adjoining Sub-Himalayan West Bengal region. The intensity of showers has remained on the higher side for the districts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal as compared with those in Northeast India.
In fact, both the regions have seldom seen dry days as rains have been lashing the states almost throughout the month of August. The month of September began with rains as well.
In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Friday, Cherrapunji recorded 46 mm of rains, Jalpaiguri 44 mm, Jorhat 31 mm, Kohima 25 mm, Kailashahr 19 mm, and Goalpara and Pasighat both recorded 15 mm of rains each.

As per Skymet Weather, the cyclonic circulation persists over Assam and adjoining area. Moreover, the axis of Monsoon trough is also seen passing from Assam to Manipur. In addition to this, the southerly moist winds are also prevailing over most parts of the northeast and Sub-Himalayan region.
On account of all the above-mentioned weather systems, rainfall activity is likely to increase over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya.
In fact, the possibility of a few moderate to isolated heavy spells cannot be ruled out in districts of Northeast India as well. Though rains will mainly be moderate in the NMMT (Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura) region. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal including Sikkim may also get to see some moderate to heavy rains.
The rainfall activity will continue in these regions for the next 24 hours, reducing thereafter.
