Rains to increase in Nagpur, Akola; Nashik, Aurangabad brace for light spells

The intensity of rains in parts of Maharashtra has mainly remained light to very light from last many days. In fact, good rains have remained missing in the state from July that continued in August as well. However, the fag end of July did bring some good three digit showers of rain for the coastal areas of the state but interiors have been waiting for a long time to witness some good rains.

The rain intensity across the state has followed the suit and in the last 24 hours also, no significant changes in the rain intensity were observed. The reason for these light rainy traces and absence of heavy Monsoon showers in the state can be associated with the absence of any significant weather system.

In addition to this, the offshore trough that runs along the West Coast of India is also insignificant due to which rains in Coastal Maharashtra that includes regions such as Mumbai, Ratnagiri, Mahabaleshwar, and Harnai have remained on a lower side.

However, some changes in the current weather pattern in parts of Maharashtra is being anticipated by Skymet Weather. The weathermen at Skymet Weather reiterates that the Low-Pressure Area which is expected over Odisha will be responsible for increasing rains over Maharashtra particularly in Vidarbha and Marathwada regions of the state in the next 24 hours. These rains may start occurring from today until August 19.

Thus, heavy to very heavy with isolated extremely heavy rains are expected to occur over Gondia, Amravati, Nagpur, Akola, and Nanded for the next 24 hours. Though rains will continue to be lesser on the coastal districts of the state.

However, around August 19 and 20, rains are expected to increase over many parts of North Madhya Maharashtra and at a few parts of North Konkan & Goa region as well. Thus, districts such as Dahanu, Thane, Nashik, Pune, Malegaon, Jalgaon, Ahmednagar, and Aurangabad may receive a few good spells as the rain belt which is over Odisha will shift towards west direction.

However, by August 21, rains will once again reduce over most parts of Marathwada and Vidarbha region.
