The West Coast of the country had seen good Monsoon rains making an appearance during the beginning of the season. However, during the last few days of July and the beginning of August, Monsoon rains had sort of taken a backseat over the entire West Coast and only light to moderate rains were occurring over the coastal areas of Kerala, Karnataka and Konkan and Goa.

Mumbai rains had also taken a backseat with only light showers making an appearance. In fact, rains were not even in their double digits over the city of Mumbai.

However, the last two three days have been rainy enough for the state of Kerala at least. In fact, the state has been battling with floods due to persistence of moderate to heavy rains and the opening of the gates of around two dozen reservoirs.

The rainfall activity has also picked up pace over the coastal parts of Karnataka as well as Konkan and Goa region.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Mangaluru saw 37 mm of rains, Kozhikode 39 mm, Vengurla 33 mm, Honavar 28 mm, Kannur 27 mm, Thane 22 mm, Mumbai 14 mm, Ratnagiri 23 mm, Karipur 24 mm, and Goa 18 mm.

Now, rains are expected to witness an increase over all these areas and moderate to heavy showers will persist. In fact, Mumbai rains will also become moderate now and isolated heavy showers can also not be ruled out.
