It looks like that rain gods have been too kind in terms of precipitation over the state of Tamil Nadu including Chennai. To such an extent that rains of varied intensity have been lashing the state in the last few weeks.

The last 24 hours were also of no difference over the entire state. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Coimbatore recorded a whopping 53 mm of rain, Coonoor 25.4 mm, Dharmapuri 18 mm. Meanwhile, rains over Chennai remained subdued.
These rainfall activities can be attributed to the presence of an off shore trough which is running along the east coast up to Tamil Nadu. Along with, a cyclonic circulation is over Gulf of Mannar. In wake of this, moisture incursion has increased over the region.
As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, northern parts of Tamil Nadu will witness moderate rainfall activity. Other areas of the state will continue with light to moderate showers during the next 24 hours. Thereafter, rains will pace up over the Tamil Nadu Coast and northern parts.
Rains over Chennai will remain on the lighter side however, after 24 hours, rainfall activity over Chennai will increase. Tamil Nadu coast and northern parts will also see increase in rains.
