Earlier, the entire northeastern states of India were witnessing subdued rainfall activities. However, the last 24 hours varied and a few places over Assam have been observing good showers while the NMMT region (Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura)  has been recording scattered light rains.

The past 24 hours also bought some heavy rains for Northeast India wherein the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Friday, North Lakhimpur recorded rainfall of 96 mm, Dibrugarh 74.1 mm, Silchar 61 mm, Cherrapunji 55 mm, Dhubri 34 mm, Goalpara 13.4 mm, Shillong 13.1 mm, Mazbat 9.6 mm, Imphal 4.4 mm, Barpeta and Kailashahar 3 mm.

These weather conditions can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation which is seen over NMMT region (Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura) and adjoining areas of Myanmar Coast. A trough is also seen extending from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal up to the extreme north of Bay of Bengal.

As per the weathermen at Skymet Weather, humid winds from the Bay of Bengal are increasing moisture content over the northeastern states of India. Due to this, many places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, as well as Assam, will witness scattered moderate rain and thundershower activities during the next 24 hours. While the remaining parts of northeastern states will observe scattered light showers only in the similar time period.

Thereafter, these ongoing rains are likely to reduce gradually over the entire northeastern states, as a low-pressure area is likely to form over east central Bay of Bengal. In addition, dry northwesterly winds are also expected to prevail over the state.
