Rains to drench parched Kolkata

Rain in Kolkata

The weather of Kolkata has remained dry for about fifteen days now. The capital of West Bengal has not been drenched with rains since February 22 when the city had recorded light rainy traces of 0.2 mm. Since then, Kolkata has been starving for some downpour.

The good news is that Skymet Weather now predicts some rainy days soon heading towards the state and particularly towards Kolkata.

At present, an anti-cyclonic circulation is persisting over the central Bay of Bengal. Warm and dry southeasterly winds are penetrating over the region and this anti-cyclonic circulation will lead to an increase in the moisture content over West Bengal.

Around March 10, there is a likelihood of a formation of an east-west trough across Jharkhand stretching up to Gangetic West Bengal. This would result in an increase in the rainfall activity over the city and other parts of the state.

Between March 10 and March 11, one or two moderate rainy spells can be observed in Kolkata and adjoining regions. Along with rains, strong winds and lightning strikes cannot be ruled out as well.

Thus, after remaining dry for a long time finally, Kolkata will get to see some rainy spells. The period of rain and thundershowers are likely to span between March 8 until March 11.
