July was full of Monsoon showers for the state of Gujarat and specifically for Ahmedabad that was witnessing good rains in the entire month. Though the rainfall intensity overAhmedabaddropped significantly in the month of August to an extent that the city has been witnessing light spells since the beginning of the month.
After witnessing a double digit rain of 28 mm on August 12, rains have reduced over Ahmedabad and other parts of the state drastically and since then, the city has just seen single digit rains. In fact, the last 48 hours have remained parched for Ahmedabad as it has not seen even a single spell of rains. However, now rains are expected to make an appearance over the city of Ahmedabad soon.

These weather conditions will be attributed to the shift of the axis of Monsoon trough that has shifted towards the south. Furthermore, the trough is likely to move across Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha during the next 24 hours.

In addition to this, the cyclonic circulation which was over Odisha is also expected to shift over South Madhya Pradesh thereby enhancing the rainfall activity over the coastal and northeastern parts of Gujarat including Ahmedabad.
Apart from Ahmedabad, other districts such asVadodara,Surat, Gandhinagar, Idar, and Banaskantha will also witness rains. These rains will start occurring from today and will continue for at least another 24 hours.
Due to the combined effect of both these weather systems, light to moderate rains followed by overcast sky will show up in parts of the state. The drop in temperatures with winds speeding in gusts will be an addition to the weather conditions.
