The City Of Joy, Kolkata has been not so joyful when it comes to rainy weather. The city has been dry since a lot many days so much so that in the month of February, Kolkata witnessed light scattered showers with only 0.2 mm of rainfall. This negligible rainfall occurred on February 22.
Even in the month of March, rainfall has been absent over the city. The monthly average rainfall precipitation for Kolkata is 35.2 mm. But now we can expect isolated rains to continue for next 48 hours over Kolkata.
Thereafter the intensity of rainfall is expected to increase by March 8 to 10. During that time few moderate showers is also likely to occur over Kolkata. The reason for such rainy activity is east-west trough which is running from Northern plains of India to Gangetic West Bengal across Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand.
Moreover, moderate winds from southwest direction will also increase the moisture content over the area. Even though the month of February did not meet its monthly average rain of 20.9 mm but meteorologists at Skymet Weather expects that March is going to be much better in terms of rainfall. If the weather gods allow then the City Of Joy may again be joyous as it may surpass the monthly average rainfall.
