Sunny days are back for the states of Gujarat and Rajasthan. Rains have taken a backseat as both the states have not witnessed rains from almost 5-6 days. However, isolated patchy rains did occur in a few parts, on large the states have remained parched. The prevailing dry days can be associated with the absence of any significant weather system over the region.

However, in the last 24 hours, only Alwar and Sawai Madhopur districts in the desert state, Rajasthan recorded light spells of 7 mm and 2 m respectively. Several districts such as Surat, Ahmedabad in Gujarat mainly remained rain-free. On account of the dry weather, the maximum temperature in parts of both the states has mounted up, settling a few notches above the normal.

As per Skymet Weather, these short rainy spells were due to the shifting of the axis of Monsoon trough towards North Rajasthan. Due to which, scattered light rains occurred over the northern districts of the state such as Alwar.

But now, an anti cyclone is developing over Rajasthan and hence the weather is likely to become dry over most parts of West and East Rajasthan. Thus districts such as Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Churu, Bikaner are anticipated to remain dry.

However, a cyclonic circulation has also developed over Konkan & Goa region along with the adjoining Madhya Maharashtra. Moreover, a trough is also expected to develop over South Gujarat and, therefore, scattered rains may commence over southeast Rajasthan from September 9 onward. But the intensity of rains will be less and will cover few districts of the state such as Kota, Bundi, Chittorgarh, and Udaipur.

In the wake of these weather systems, the dry spell of Gujarat will also end and initially, the southern parts of Gujarat will start receiving rains. Though gradually, the intensity and spread of rains may increase, covering many parts of Gujarat. Mainly South Saurashtra and Kutch along with Gujarat region will receive light spell of rains. Districts such as Surat, Bhavnagar, Valsad, Vadodara, Rajkot, Ahmedabad and Amreli may get rains. While the districts such as Bhuj, Naliya, and Idar may remain dry.

These on and off rains will continue to drench both the states between September 10 and 15.
