Rains to continue to be dominant over Northeast India

October 9, 2016 4:02 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Since the past 2 days, scattered moderate showers are going over most parts of Northeast India. Now as the Monsoon has withdrawn from northwest India, so the entire region is experiencing northwesterly winds. This winds pattern has hence forth made sure that the rainfall activity will continue over East and Northeast states of India.

Gradually the intensity of rain will increase over Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura region will also receive scattered showers but moderate to heavy showers are expected to occur over Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh for next 4-5 days.

By October 14-15, rain intensity of most parts of Northeast states will go down. During this Southwest Monsoon, Northeast India did not receive enough rains. Till now, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh have received scanty rain in October. Even Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura states are rainfall deficient.

This rainfall spell will last for another 4-5 days. Even if this rainfall will contribute to rainfall figures but as the normal rainfall figures of these states are very high therefore we do not expect rainfall figures to come near normal anytime soon.
