Rains to continue over Tamil Nadu and Kerala

Rain in Kerala

While almost the entire country is battling with heat conditions and sweltering temperature levels, South India is enjoying a good spell of showers. Most states of the region have been witnessing light to moderate rainy spells.

In fact, during the last 24 hours, many parts of the region witnessed heavy rains. The reason for these rains can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Also, a trough is extending from this system up to South Tamil Nadu across the extreme west of Tamil Nadu.

Rain and thundershower activities are likely to continue over many districts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu for the next 24 hours. In fact, isolated heavy showers are also expected.

In the last 24 hours, fairly widespread moderate rain with few heavy spells were observed over Kerala. Tamil Nadu also recorded good rain activity. Rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours: Madurai district in Tamil Nadu received 37.4 mm rainfall while Coonoor received 39.8 mm rainfall. While in Kerala, Alappuzha received heavy rainfall of 45.4mm. Cities like Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, and Kannur also received a good amount of rainfall.
