Light Rains to continue over Tamil Nadu and Kerala

After a prolonged dry spell, Kerala and parts of Tamil Nadu have been finally blessed with some decent rains. Rains have bestowed over these two regions from past 2-3 days. However, most of the other regions still remained parched.

As per Skymet Weather, the cyclonic circulation over coastal Karnataka and adjoining areas has lost its intensity and is presently lying in the lower levels. A trough is also seen extending across Tamil Nadu to the cyclonic circulation across south interior Karnataka up to 1.5 km above sea level.

In the wake of this weather system, in last 24 hours, scattered light showers at some parts of Tamil Nadu including Kerala were observed. Few parts of North Tamil Nadu had also witnessed isolated heavy showers. While scattered moderate showers were observed over parts of Kerala.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, significant rains have observed over Kerala. Kozhikode recorded rains of 4 mm while Kannur observed rainy spells of 1 mm only.

Talking about Tamil Nadu, significant rains recorded during the same time frame in the state were; Chennai 2 mm, Dharmapuri witnessed a whopping 79 mm of rains, Karaikal 16 mm, Nagapattinam 22 mm and Salem recorded mere wet spells of 2 mm.

As of now, rains, mainly light in nature are expected to continue over the area. However, isolate moderate rains are likely in parts of Tamil Nadu and over north Kerala coast. These rains are foreseen to continue for next 48 hours.
