As forecast by Skymet Weather, rain and thundershower activities have already commenced over many parts of Punjab and Haryana. Since last night, light rains are going on over Punjab. The rain intensity has picked up today morning onward. Now, we expect the intensity of rains and thundershowers to increase today. These on and off rains are likely to continue until tomorrow. A few places may even experience hailstorm activities as well as lightning strikes. Minimums have already gone up by 3 to 6 degrees over these places.
We expect the maximums to drop by three to six degrees over both the states today. The difference between minimums and maximums is set to reduce. Fall in day temperatures usually equals winter chill which is soon going to set up over these states. Isolated pockets of Punjab and Haryana may witness cold day conditions as well. Cold day conditions come in place when the maximum temperatures fail to cross the 16 degrees Celsius mark. In other words, the day temperatures remain at or below 16 degree Celsius.
By December 14, we expect rain activities to subside over both the states. Also, fairly widespread moderate to dense fog is expected to engulf most parts of Punjab and Haryana on December 14 and 15, due to significant increase in humidity and low temperatures.
The icy cold winds from Western Himalayas will be instrumental in dropping the minimums by four to six degrees in a span of 48 hours. The drop will be witnessed from December 14 onward.
