Kerala has recorded fairly widespread rain and thundershowers during the last 24 hours. In fact, one or two places have also observed heavy spells.
These on and off showers were observed over southern districts of Kerala since last few days. In fact, the intensity of these rains has increased significantly in last 24 hours.
In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, Alapuzha recorded 33 mm of rainfall, followed by Kochi 32.4 mm, Thiruvanathapuram 33 mm and Kannur 6 mm of rains.
The reason for these showers over the state can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation. This system has developed over Maldives area. Also, a trough is extending from this system up to central parts of the country via Kerala and interior parts of Tamil Nadu.
Weatherman predicts these rain and thundershowers to continue lashing several parts of Kerala for at least next 2 to 3 days.
Before these rainy spells has visited the state, Kerala was reeling under warm and dry weather conditions due to absence of any significant weather system over the area. In fact, day maximums were settling above normal by 2 to 4°C.
But this ongoing spell of rain was a relief to the locals from the prolonged dry spell over the state.
