The states of Punjab and Haryana have not seen good enough Monsoon rains during this season at least. Rains have remained on the lower side. Thus, since June 1 until today, Haryana is rain deficient by 15 percent, meanwhile, Punjab has seen its rainfall deficiency at -11 percent.
However, during the last few days, rains have remained on an increase with both the states recording light to moderate rainfall activity. The last 24 hours have also seen similar conditions prevailing over the states.
In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Anandpur Sahib witnessed a whopping 98 mm of rainfall, Chandigarh recorded a good 34 mm of rains, Karnal 22 mm, Ambala saw 12.5 mm of rains, Kurukshetra 3.4 mm, Amritsar 3.6 mm, Kapurthala 10 mm, Jalandhar 3 mm, Ludhiana 22 mm, and Pathankot 25.4 mm.
These rains have been attributed to the presence of a cyclonic circulation over North Haryana and adjoining Punjab region. The axis of the Monsoon trough is also extending across both these states. Meanwhile, the Western Disturbance is also over the foothills of the Himalayas.
Now, during the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rainfall activity is expected over the northern parts of Punjab and Haryana. On the other hand, rains will remain on the backseat for southern parts of both these states.
