Rains to continue over Maharashtra and parts of Gujarat

Southwest Monsoon has already withdrawn from many parts of Gujarat but Maharashtra is still waiting for the withdrawal of Southwest monsoon.

Rainfall between June 01 and September 30 for which monsoon rains are calculated, ended with the surplus of 24% for Saurashtra and Kutch whereas Gujarat region recorded normal rainfall with the deficiency of 15%. Konkan and Goa was surplus by 24%, Madhya Maharashtra by 16%, Marathwada remained large surplus by 48% and Vidarbha recorded near normal rainfall with 3% of surplus.

Although monsoon has ended officially, but Monsoon withdrawal is still pending from southern parts of Gujarat and entire Maharashtra. During last 24 hours, heavy rain was recorded over Southern districts of Gujarat such as Valsad and light rain over many other districts. Many parts of Maharashtra recorded good rain and thunder shower activities as well.

Southern districts of Gujarat may receive light rain with one or two moderate spells for another 48 hours. Southern districts of Gujarat such as Valsad, Navsari, Surat, Bharuch, Narmada, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath and Amreli may receive scattered rain.

Light to moderate rain with one or two heavy spells are possible over Konkan and Goa south Madhya Maharashtra and isolated pockets of Marathwada for another 24 to 48 hours. Thereafter, rain activities will reduce significantly over Maharashtra as well. Monsoon withdrawal from most parts of Gujarat and many parts of Maharashtra by October 12.
