Rains to continue over Kerala and Tamil Nadu

Southwest Monsoon has already withdrawn from many parts of northwest and central India. Moreover, conditions also seem favorable for further withdrawal of Monsoon from most parts of the country except south peninsular India.

A cyclonic circulation is seen over Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas. In the wake of this weather system, good rains are expected to lash the southern peninsular India particularly, good rains are likely over Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

During last 24-48 hours also, many areas of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have received good rains.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, most parts of Kerala that have witnessed good rains include Mannarkkad 30.4 mm, Pookot 20 mm, Ponnani 18.3 mm, Kochi 14.4 mm and Perintalmanna recorded 10 mm of rainy spells.

During the similar time frame, parts of Karnataka also witnessed light to moderate spells. Regions that witnessed some spells include Agumbe 5.4mm, Mandya 20 mm, Hassan 8.2 mm, Chitradunga 3.4 mm, Bangalore 2.5 mm and Mangalore witnessed 8.2 mm rainy spells. Chennai in Tamil Nadu also witnessed 2.3 mm of spells.

During last 3 months of the year that is from October to December, south peninsular India particularly, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and interior Karnataka along with parts of Kerala generally receives good rains.

As of now, these areas have been receiving increased rainfall activities but 48 hours hence, these ongoing rains will once again reduce but parts of Kerala and south Tamil Nadu are still expected to continue with scattered showers.

As per Skymet Weather, Northeast Monsoon is expected to remain slightly below normal in the month of October. Hence, any significant increase in the rainfall activities over these areas for the next few days is not foreseen as such.
