Due to an approaching fresh Western Disturbance, rains have commenced over Jammu and Kashmir. During the last 24 hours, scattered light rains have occurred over Jammu and Kashmir in places like Srinagar, Jammu, Qazigund, Banihal and Pahalgam.
Now the intensity of these rains will increase over Jammu and Kashmir. Many parts of Himachal Pradesh will also start receiving rain and thundershower activities. Light scattered rains are also possible over the state of Uttarakhand during the next 24 hours. By May 12, the Western Disturbance will start moving away and rains will start reducing from Jammu and Kashmir.
But soon, a successive Western Disturbance will also approach. Therefore, the rain intensity will be moderate with one or two heavy spells between May 13 and 16. During this time, the upper reaches of all the three states will receive snowfall as well.
Weather in the recently opened pilgrimage places like Kedarnath and Badrinath is likely to worsen due to chances of rain. The gates to these pilgrimages have opened after a gap of 6 months.
The rainy weather in the region is expected to clear up after May 16. One must take precautions while travelling to the hill stations of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand due to high possibility of landslides during the rainy period.
People heading towards destinations like Shimla, Mussoorie, Nainital, Pahalgam and Srinagar are advised to take more precautions.
