Along with Bangalore, Mumbai, Gurugram and Noida – Delhi was also one of the cities whose roads were stuck with massive traffic jams. The rains were nowhere to be seen taking any rest while the traffic stood still. But there is some decrease in rainfall expected.
At present the axis of Monsoon trough persists over SriGanganagar, Pilani, Agra, Sultanpur, Malda, then towards it persists over Nagaland. A cyclonic circulation is seen over east Rajasthan and adjoining areas. Another cyclonic circulation is over Haryana over lower level.
A Western Disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation is moving across Jammu & Kashmir towards east. In the last 24 hours Delhi has witnessed widespread rainfall with few heavy spell in parts, Palam observatory recorded 144 mm of rainfall 80 mm of rains were recorded in span of mere three hours from 5:30 am to 8:30 am. The axis of Monsoon is likely to move further towards north and the Western Disturbance will move towards East. In the wake of these weather systems moving away the rain activity is likely to decrease after 24 hours gradually.
As of now for the month of July, Palam has received a monthly total of 215.4 mm of rainfall against the normal rainfall of 199.4 mm. For the monsoon period starting from June 1 till date the actual rainfall recorded is 243.2 mm against the normal rainfall of 268.7 mm.
For the Safdurjung observatory the monthly average is for July is 256.4 mm of rainfall against the normal of 195.0 mm rainfall. For Monsoon season the actual rainfall is 290 mm against the normal of 260.5 mm.
By the looks of rainfall figures, the rainfall is already in excess for Delhi.
