At present, a Confluence Zone is prevailing over Chhattisgarh and parts of Odisha. A Trough is also extending from Gangetic West Bengal to South coast of Odisha. Apart from this, Southeasterly humid winds from Bay of Bengal are feeding moisture over the area. Therefore, already good rains are going on over Odisha and Chhattisgarh since the last few days.
Now, we expect these rain activities to continue over the region for another 24 hours. However, Odisha will continue to receive rain and thundershower activities for another 48 hours. Isolated rains might also keep lashing Odisha. Lightning strikes and thundershowers are also possible during this period over many parts of Odisha.
By January 5, the weather of Odisha will go dry. By tomorrow, the weather activities over Odisha will start receding. However, Odisha might get rain and thundershower activities tomorrow as well. By January 5, the weather over entire Odisha and Chhattisgarh will become dry. Isolated thundery activities might continue over coastal areas of Odisha thereafter as well.
The day temperatures will start increasing over Chhattisgarh and Odisha however minimums might decrease by 2 to 3 degrees.
Rains at this time of the year are very unusual for the region. Odisha only receives rains due to the emergence of any Low Pressure Area or Depression over the Bay of Bengal. During the fag end of December and first half of January, the formation of any weather system over North Bay of Bengal is very rare.
