While the month of October was quite good in terms of rain activity in Chennai, November seems to follow the same route and the reasons is a trough can be seen over southwest Bay of Bengal close to the Tamil Nadu coast.
This system is expected to move further west. Due to this movement of the system, the Northeast Monsoon which is until now on the weaker side will become a bit active over the Tamil Nadu Coast. Hence the city of Chennai may receive few episodes of good rains.
As per Skymet Weather, scattered light to moderate rains will continue over Chennai for next 24 to 48 hours. Thereafter, the rain activity will reduce over the city with only a few isolated showers.
Chennai city has recorded rainfall of 3.2 mm in the last 24 hours.
Cloudy to mainly overcast sky with a few light rainy spells are expected over the city. Also, temperatures may drop marginally during day hours.
The city receives a whopping 407.4 mm of average rainfall during the month of November, and till now Chennai has been able to record just 32.2 mm in 13 days. With this, reaching its monthly rainfall mean may not only look daunting but a difficult target to achieve.
The city of Chennai is rain deficient by 66% till November 10.
