Andaman and Nicobar Islands have been witnessing good spell of rain since past many days. According to Skymet Weather, fairly widespread rain has occurred over the region. Particularly the southern parts of islands including Nancowry, Car Nicobar and Hut Bay have received heavy to very heavy rains.
Moreover, some parts of Thailand such as Phuket, Krabi, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Chumphon have recorded extremely heavy showers leading to flash floods and landslides.
In India stations like Nancowry received 11 mm of rainfall, Car Nicobar 8 mm, Hut Bay 7 mm. Stations in Thailand like Nakhon Si Thammarat received 70 mm, Phuket 54 mm and Chumphon got 55 mm of rainfall in last 24 hours.
These ongoing rain and thundershowers over the region can be attributed to the low pressure area which is persisting over Southeast Andaman Sea and Tenasserim Coast. This system has strengthened into a well-marked low pressure area and has moved slightly towards Thailand.
In wake of this, we can expect rains to reduce significantly over Andaman and Nicobar Islands; however scattered rain and thundershowers will continue over the group of islands.
As of now, no significant relief is foreseen for Thailand. Heavy to very heavy rains with isolated extremely heavy showers will continue to lash aforementioned areas in Thailand. Tourists are advised to postpone their trip to these islands because of heavy downpours. Also locals are warned not to venture out along and off the Sea.
