Both Chhattisgarh and Odisha have received normal rainfall between June 1 and July 16. Odisha has received one percent surplus and Chhattisgarh has received 11% surplus rainfall. These two states are getting good rains continuously for the last several days due to the influence of the low pressure areas that have formed in the Bay of Bengal.
A fresh low pressure area has formed off Odisha coast which will move in the northwest direction and will give widespread rain to many parts of Odisha and Chhattisgarh during next 2 or 3 days. These rain activities will continue till July 21, although there may be some decrease in between.
In the month of June, these two states did not receive enough rains but the month of July is proving to be very good for both the states. Generally, Odisha and Chhattisgarh get good rains when a low pressure area is formed in the northwest or central West Bay of Bengal and the eastern end of the monsoon trough line moves towards the south. This is what has been seen in the month of July.
One after another low pressure areas are forming, which are keeping the monsoon trough southwards over Chhattisgarh and Odisha. In the next two days, the low pressure area will move further towards Madhya Pradesh. But the eastern end of the monsoon trough will remain over Chhattisgarh and Odisha till July 21 or 22. Rainfall ratio in both the states may increase due to the effect of rain that will continue for the next 3 or 4 days.
