During the last 48 hours, fairly widespread rain and thundershower activities occurred over many parts of West Bengal including Kolkata. In fact, Kolkata received moderate to heavy rain and thundershower activities. Rain activities commenced over Kolkata since morning yesterday and continued until late night. Although, Alipore recorded only 21 mm of rain but actual rain was much higher than this over many parts of the city. Many districts of Gangetic West Bengal also received moderate to heavy rains.

These rains were due to a Trough which was extending from Northern Plains to Gangetic West Bengal. Moreover, humid winds from Bay of Bengal were feeding moisture over the region.

Now, these rain activities have subsided, but we expect scattered light rain with one or two moderate spells to continue over many parts of West Bengal. Light scattered rains might still be observed over a few areas Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. These will subside by tomorrow completely. After 24 hours, the weather of West Bengal will once again become dry.

By tomorrow, we expect the weather to become dry and temperatures which have dropped significantly due to continuous rain activities, particularly the day temperatures will start rising. There will be a rise of 4 to 5 degrees in day temperatures in the next 24 to 48 hours over many parts of Gangetic and Central districts of West Bengal.
