Southwest Monsoon has been playing tremendously good for the South Peninsular India. While most of the northern states of the country are witnessing dry weather, the states in South India are still recording some good showers. Though the intensity in South Indian states has reduced but on and off rains has been showing up almost daily.
Similar is the case for Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep Island that has been witnessing on and off rains almost throughout the month of August. Though the intensity of rains has remained on a higher side for the ‘God’s own country’, Kerala in contrast with Karnataka. While rain in the Coral Island that is Lakshadweep Island varied from light to moderate.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Mysore in Karnataka recorded hefty three-digit rains to the tune of 123 mm followed by Koppal in the same state which witnessed 88 mm of heavy showers. Raichur also witnessed 56 mm of rains. During the similar time frame, districts of Kerala such as Punalur recorded 92 mm of rains, Alappuzha 30 mm of rains, Kochi 12 mm, and Thiruvananthapuram 6 mm of light spells. Minicoy also recorded 77 mm of rains and Agathi 49 mm.

As per Skymet Weather, a trough was extending from South Madhya Maharashtra to Lakshadweep Island across coastal Karnataka. This weather system gave these rains over all the three above mentioned states.
However, now, a cyclonic circulation is seen over North Kerala. Thus, Kerala may brace for some good rains for the next 4-5 days. Moreover, a trough is extending from Interior Odisha to South Tamil Nadu across Rayalaseema and South Interior Karnataka. Hence, Karnataka and Lakshadweep Island may also record some good rains.
