More rains in Dehradun, Uttarakhand; landslides likely

Being the oldest cities of India, the weather conditions over this mesmerizing city remains pleasant during the Monsoon season. In fact, during the last 24 hours as well, moderate rain and thundershowers have lashed Dehradun, bringing some relief to doon residents from the prevailing heat.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, Dehradun has recorded moderate showers to the tune of 31.3 mm. Few other regions of Uttarakhand have also recorded light rains. These include Almora that witnessed 4.4 mm of rainfall, Mussoorie 6 mm and Pithoragarh 6.2 mm.

The reason for these showers can be attributed to the Western Disturbance which is lying over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir.

As per Skymet Weather, partly cloudy to cloudy sky will persist, giving scattered rains over the state of Uttarakhand including Dehradun for the next 24 to 48 hours. Thereafter, the weather will become dry. Moreover, not much change is expected in the temperature profile and the mercury will settle between 35 and 37 °C.

Due to continuous rainfall activity, more landslides are likely to occur in districts of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Pithoragarh. Char Dham pilgrims are advised to take necessary precautions.

So far in May, the capital city of Uttarakhand has recorded 43.9 mm of rain against the normal average rainfall of 52.3 mm. With more rain in offing, it is expected that it may surpass the normal average rainfall with ease.
