Since the beginning of July, moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers continued over the West Coast of India that covers Konkan & Goa, Coastal Karnataka, and Kerala.

However, the intensity of showers has reduced over the entire area in the course of the last 24 to 48 hours, when light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells was observed.

The reduction in the rainfall could be attributed to a few features, the offshore which was running from Coastal Maharashtra to Kerala became insignificant and the cyclonic circulation that was prevailing over Gujarat has moved away.

During the past 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, Agumbe recorded heavy rains to the tune of 93 mm, followed by Mahabaleshwar 66 mm, Madikeri 62 mm, Kochi 17 mm, Panjim 14 mm, Honnavar 11 mm, Kozhikode 11 mm, Mangaluru 10 mm, Vengurla 9 mm, Alappuzha 9 mm, Karwar 8 mm, Kannur 7 mm, Dahanu 6 mm, Ratnagiri 6 mm and Harnai 3 mm.

In consequence to this, we are foreseeing light to moderate showers to endure over the West Coast with Konkan & Goa, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala for at least the subsequent 48 hours.

Afterward, the intensity of rainfall will decrease further over Konkan & Goa, wherein light showers can be expected. On the other hand, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala would continue to witness light to moderate rains with even one or two heavy spells.

As on July 22, Konkan & Goa has witnessed excess rainfall to the tune of 45%, Kerala 21% and Coastal Karnataka 12%.
