Until now all the northeastern states of the country have remained highly rain deficient. Reason being the absence of significant weather systems over northeastern parts of the country. Although, on and off feeble Cyclonic Circulations had formed over Assam and adjoining areas, but due to lack of moisture incursion in the form of winds from Bay of Bengal, these winds have failed to give any rain activity over the region.
Usually, upper reaches of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh receive rains due to eastward movement of Western Disturbance along the foothills of Himalayas.
At present, a Cyclonic Circulation has developed over central parts of Assam. In addition to this, moisture feed is also available from Bay of Bengal at mid level. All these favorable conditions are expected to give scattered light to moderate rains over Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya, East Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram.
Moreover, in wake of these systems, scattered rains have already commence over parts of Arunachal Pradesh, while weather has become partly cloudy to cloudy over rest northeastern states.
According to Skymet Weather, rains would begin over northeastern states Monday evening onward and continue till tomorrow.
Further, there are also chances that upper reaches of Arunachal Pradesh may get scattered snowfall at some places.
However, these activities will be short lived and are expected to last only for two days. Therefore, we do not expect much improvement in rain figures and thus deficiency will persist.
