Rains to bring winter chill over North India including Delhi

January 1, 2017 3:45 PM |

Light winter rain likely over foothills of Uttar Pradesh

This winter season rains have been very scanty over Northern plains of India, especially Delhi and its neighboring regions which remained dry throughout the winters. Whereas in normal circumstances 2-3 rainy spells during the month of November and December are very much likely over the region.

Winter rains over Punjab, Haryana Delhi and North Rajasthan occurs due to the induced cyclonic circulation which develops over these areas whenever a strong Western Disturbance approaches West Himalayas.

Now the active Western Disturbance is expected between January 3 to January 7 and at time we expect the induced cyclonic circulation or a trough to develop over Haryana and Delhi. This weather phenomenon may give scattered light to moderate rains over many parts of Punjab & Haryana and at a few places over northwestern parts of Uttar Pradesh on January 6 & 7.

Delhi is also expected to receive 1-2 spells of rain during this period.

So we can say that this may be the first good spell of rain during winters over Northern plains. On January 7 we expect both minimum and maximum temperatures to fall over Punjab, Haryana and Delhi and adjoining areas. This drop would mean the wintery chill will finally make a comeback.
