Rains to bring relief from warm weather in Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra

Due to the absence of any significant weather system, Uttar Pradesh is witnessing dry and warm weather for last many days. However, another reason for rise in temperatures could also be the peak election time in the country’s largest populated state.

Keeping apart the political scenario, rains have stayed away from Uttar Pradesh from a long time now due to which, the state has been reeling under warm weather. However, the wait for a few rainy spells seems to get over very soon.

As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation persists over Northeast Rajasthan and a trough from this system is extending up to south and central parts of Uttar Pradesh. In the wake of this, scattered rain and thundershower activities have occurred over these region of Uttar Pradesh.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Bareilly received 2.6 mm of rains, Aligarh 3.4 mm and Meerut and Agra both witnessed some traces of rains.

Now, an anti-cyclonic circulation is expected to develop near Odisha. This will result in the humid southwesterly winds to reach the eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh. These humid winds are likely to merge up with the cool and dry northwesterly winds over foothills of the state thereby leading to the development of a confluence zone.

Thus, the northeast parts of Uttar Pradesh along with the adjoining foothills of Bihar can expect scattered rain and thundershower activities. The districts like Gorakhpur, Allahabad, Maharajganj, Azamgarh, and Varanasi can brace for some rainy spells for another 24-36 hours.

Further, the isolated areas of the state are also likely to witness strong winds and light dust storm during the next 24 hours.

However, these light rains are not expected to hamper the sixth phase of UP elections that are scheduled for March 4. As the pleasant weather is likely to prevail, it will surely add to the polling toll. Voters will not have to stand in long ques under the scorching sunny afternoons.
