Rains revive again over Konkan and Goa, Coastal Karnataka

Rains have finally revived along several parts of the West Coast during the last 24 hours. As reiterated by Skymet Weather, moderate to heavy showers have lashed several parts of Konkan and Goa region and Coastal Karnataka.

A cyclonic circulation is persisting over South Konkan coast and adjoining areas, which has given fairly widespread showers over the region.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, Karwar recorded 109 mm of rain which is the second highest rainfall of this month. Other areas which have received rain include Panjim 32 mm, Honavar 39 mm and Pune 27.1 mm.

Now we expect this cyclonic circulation to move slightly in a southerly direction. Therefore the rain intensity is likely to increase over the interior and coastal parts of Karnataka, giving moderate rains over many places with few heavy spells. Bangalore will also receive some moderate showers for the next 48 hours.

Konkan and Goa at present is rain surplus by 45% whereas Coastal Karnataka is rain deficient by 64%, thus the region could be said to have received scanty rainfall till now. With more rain in offing, the rainfall deficiency is expected to gradually decrease leading towards normal rain category for Coastal Karnataka.

As it is a period of Northeast Monsoon, most parts of South peninsula like Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and interior parts of Karnataka normally witnesses major amounts of rainfall.
