Rains over North Indian plains to make a comeback next week

January 20, 2023 7:52 PM |

After the longest time, winter rains have been observed over both the plains and the hills of North India. This was due to the Western Disturbance over the Western Himalayas as well as the induced Circulation over the plains of North India. Rains have been of good spread while remaining between light to moderate.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am yesterday, Manali recorded 16 mm of rains, Tehri 14 mm, Karnal 11 mm, Mandi 8 mm, Shimla 6 mm, Bhuntar 6 mm, Dehradun 8 mm, Dharamsala 5 mm, Ambala 2 mm, Hisar 2 mm, Sri Ganganagar 1 mm etc.

Now, rains over the plains of North India will see some reduction and the plains will remain quiet for the next two days. In fact, rains will only see a comeback around January 23.

Cold wave conditions have abated most parts and minimums have significantly risen. Now, in the absence of any activity, there may be a slight drop in minimums but cold wave will not make a comeback at all. Also, as the rains begin again over North India by next week, minimums may see an increase again.

During January 23, a good rainy spread is expected across plains as well as hills of North India. There may be a wider area recording rains.
