Weather conditions remained pleasant over Delhi/NCR over the weekend. Most parts received light to moderate rain and thundershowers. The airport observatory recorded 17mm and Safdarjung measured 3mm of rainfall in the last 48 hours. As expected, mercury levels dipped well below normal and plunged 5-7°C below average. Palam and Safdarjung recorded day maximum of 30°C and 32.2°C, respectively, the lowest temperatures in the last 2 weeks.

Western disturbance is still marked over northern mountains. Also, the cyclonic circulation lies over the Rajasthan region. Spread of clouds is covering Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh.  Though, the moisture content in these clouds is low now, but triggered by the local factors, light drizzle is still possible in some areas of Delhi/ NCR. It will find clearance in the late night.

A fresh western disturbance is expected to arrive on the 18th of April. An induced cyclonic circulation will also accompany. Similar weather conditions, like the last weekend, will return again for the capital city and suburbs. Scattered rain and thundershowers are expected between 18th and 19th April, more so on the second day. The weather conditions may not clear quickly and some more showers can be expected on the 21st and 22nd, as well.

Hide and seek of clouds and rains, over the national capital for the next one week will ensure suppressed mercury levels. Maximum may rise up to 35°C, a notch below the normal. Strong surface winds are likely between 16th and 18th April. These will restrict any abrupt rise in the mercury. Briefly, it may touch 36°C in between. Once the weather activity starts on 18th April late at night, the temperatures will dip again to the low 30’s. Overall, no heat wave is expected for Delhi over the next 10 days. The month of April 2024, may as well, go scot-free, without any incidence of heat wave. The mercury also may get restricted to under 40°C during this period.
