In fact, Sri Lanka has been receiving good rains since past many days. These pre-Monsoon activities normally commence over Sri Lanka from the month of March and continue till the onset of Monsoon.

Currently also on and off rain and thundershower activities are going on over many parts of Sri Lanka. During the last 24 hours, Puttalam and Anuradhapura received heavy rainfall activity.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Colombo recorded 3.8 mm of rain, followed by Puttalam 33.3 mm, Anuradhapura 30.3 mm, Mannar 17.3 mm, Galle 6.1 mm, Vavuniya 5.6 mm, Kandy 1.1 mm and Hambantota 3.3 mm.

The reason of these rains is due to the persistence of a trough over equatorial Indian Ocean. Occasionally, cyclonic circulations also form over southern parts of Sri Lanka leading to these weather activities.

Now, we expect these rains to continue in varied intensities over Sri Lanka in the coming days as well. Weather is not likely to become dry anytime soon. Rains are expected to continue.
