After a dry spell, rains have once again increased over the state of Gujarat. The intensity of rains was more over southern districts i.e. Bulsar, Mahuva, Surat, Vairaval and Vallabh Vidyanagar. In the last 24 hours, Mahuva received 53 mm of rain while Bulsar received 21 mm of rain. The cities of Surendranagar and Ahmedabad also received light rains.
At present, a Trough is extending from Saurashtra to Central Bay of Bengal. Therefore, we expect moderate rains with one or two heavy spells to occur over South Gujarat. Places like Surat, Navsari and Valsad might receive these rains. Whereas light to moderate rains are possible over Bhavnagar, Mahuva, Amreli, Veraval and Junagarh. Scattered light rains are likely in Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Baroda and Porbandar. We do not expect any significant rains over Kutch.
These on and off rains are expected to continue until September 22.
Yet, another spell of moderate rains are expected over Gujarat region and southern districts of Saurashtra around September 26 and 27.
So, it seems that Monsoon is not going to bid farewell to Gujarat until the end of September. This year the state is all set to see a delayed withdrawal.
