As of now, Kolkata and the adjoining districts of Gangetic West Bengal are reeling under dry and hot weather conditions for last few days. However, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal including the districts like Coochbehar, Jalpaiguri, and Siliguri will continue receiving scattered rain and thundershowers.
The reason for these rains as per Skymet Weather can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation that persists over East Bihar. Though a sigh of relief from the ongoing sultry weather is expected in Kolkata as well as the ‘city of joy’ is likely to witness some rains on May 28.

Thereafter, these pre-Monsoon rains of varying intensity are expected to continue over Kolkata. With these rains, the maximum temperatures that have scaled up will also subside.
Moreover, the approaching rainy spell stands a strong chance to continue over Kolkata and other districts of West Bengal until the arrival of Monsoon, which is anticipated to make an onset over Kolkata in the second week of June.
On and off showers occurred in Kolkata between May 11 and May 17. Henceforth, rains remained absent from the capital city of West Bengal making the weather conditions across the city and adjoining regions sultry and humid. However, the other districts of the West Bengal have witnessed a few good spells.
