Rains likely in Delhi today, intermittent showers to continue for a week

The national capital Delhi has been observing dry weather conditions for a few days. And the temperatures have also remained above normal.

But the conditions are going to change now. The axis of Monsoon Trough has started shifting northwards due to which we expect rains to commence over Delhi and NCR today (July 31). Light and patchy rains can be witnessed over multiple areas of NCR.

By August 1, the axis of Monsoon Trough will shift close to Delhi and a Cyclonic Circulation is also expected to form over the southeast and adjoining central parts of Uttar Pradesh. In view of these systems, we expect rain intensity to increase by tomorrow. Between August 2 and 4, there are all likelihood of moderate showers at many places in Delhi and NCR area.

The weather conditions thereafter will not become absolutely dry as the Trough will start oscillating Southwards. Thus, on and off rains will continue to be observed in Delhi-NCR. Although, the intensity of these rains will go down and will be observed in isolated pockets only.

The weather is expected to remain cloudy throughout the week. Temperatures will also remain below normal leading to comfortable weather conditions in the National Capital.

Thus, the first week of August is going to be comfortable in terms of temperatures as well as rainfall activities. Although we do not expect heavy to very heavy rains, one or two intense spells cannot be ruled out. There is all possibility of waterlogging at isolated places in Delhi and its neighbouring areas like Noida, Gurugram and Faridabad.

In view of this spell, we expect the rainfall deficiency of Delhi to drop by some extent.
