Rain in Northeast India

The seven sisters of India right from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, to Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura have been experiencing dry weather conditions since last few days.

With the aridness, moderate to dense fog was seen over several places of Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura. On the other hand, remaining parts of the region witnessed shallow to moderate fog.

Now, a fresh Western disturbance is approaching the Western Himalayas. This weather system would travel along the foothills towards Northeast India. By January 24, it is most expected to start affecting Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya in terms of rain. Scattered showers are anticipated over the cited areas.

In fact, isolated snowfall activity is also likely over the higher reaches of Arunachal Pradesh. Moreover, Nagaland will also observe few spells of rain during the same time frame. Days would be cool and comfortable, while nights are expected to be cold.

This weather activity over northeastern states will remain until January 27. However, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura may witness more or less dry weather conditions. Daytime temperatures will descend further over Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and parts of Nagaland in the wake of rains.

After the passage of the Western Disturbance, we can expect dense fog to return over several places of Northeast India. This weather condition could be attributed to the increased moisture levels and low minimums across the region.
