Within a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am as on Tuesday, Ludhiana witnessed heavy spells of 48 mm, Patiala 30 mm, Amritsar 22 mm, and Hisar recorded light rains of 3 mm.

As per Skymet Weather, the reason for these showers can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining Punjab and a trough is seen extending from this system up to coastal Odisha across Uttar Pradesh.

Moreover, the easterly winds that were blowing earlier are also now replace by the westerlies. These winds also resulted in increasing the humidity level of the area. All these factors are likely to be a contributing factor resulting in rain and thundershowers along with dust storm at some parts of Punjab and Haryana in the next 48 hours. Thereafter, on and off rains are expected to continue occurring in both the states until the weekend.

These showers will in turn also not let the temperatures to rise much. As against the earlier prevailing maximums that were settling between 44°C-47°C, these showers have dropped the maximums significantly in the order of 10-12°C. As of now also maximums are expected to not rise beyond 40°C.
