Moderate to heavy showers have made their appearance over parts of Odisha. Most of the regions have observed moderate to light rainy spells during last 24 hours.
In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, rainfall recorded in most parts of the state is displayed in the table given below:
At present, there are two weather systems affecting the weather conditions of Odisha. Initially, a low pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining regions persists along with an associated upper air cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level.
Moreover, the western end of the axis of the Monsoon trough also continues to run in close proximity to the foothills of the Himalayas. Furthermore, the eastern arm of the axis of Monsoon trough is moving across Gorakhpur, Gaya, and the center of the low pressure area and further towards Bay of Bengal.
In the wake of these two above mentioned weather systems, Odisha particularly the coastal region has been lashed with heavy downpour during last 24 hours.
Furthermore, as per Skymet Weather, northern parts of the state is likely to receive mainly light rainfall. However, the southern region is expected to witness mainly dry weather conditions.
This may further lead to the day’s temperatures witnessing some highs as well. Due to this, warm and humid weather is likely to prevail over most parts of the state. Localized development along the coastal belt is expected during afternoon and evening.
However, 24 hours hence, dry weather is then likely to prevail over the Northern region of Odisha. At present, Odisha’s cumulative rainfall deficiency stands at 11 percent. However, possibility of a few light spells may bring down the rain deficiency to some extent.
