rain in Chennai

During the last 21 hours,Chennai received some light rainfallactivities. While the Nungambakkam Observatory received 5 mm rains, Minambakkam Observatory recorded 6 mm rains. Other parts of Tamil Nadu such as Karaikal received a whopping 95 mm rain, and Nagapattinam recorded 15 mm rains. As had been forecast, the rain activities have come down over Tamil Nadu by a large extent since yesterday. The Northern districts such as Chennai have only received some light rainfall in the last 21 hours.

Now, as the Monsoon surge will get weakened and the easterly wave will also subside, we expect rain activities over Chennai to now reduce. Only some isolated light rain activities are likely over a few districts until November 26.

An increase in rain activities is likely over Coastal Tamil Nadu as well as Chennai from November 27. On and off good rains are expected to continue until November 29 due to activation of easterly wave as well as the Monsoon surge. Rains will increase over interior Tamil Nadu as well as over South coastal Andhra Pradesh as well as parts of South Kerala. After a lull of two to three days, Monsoon activities will once again increase over Chennai and suburbs. During that time, we expectmoderate rains with one or two intense spells to lash Chennai and suburbs.

Until October 21, Chennai as well as many parts of Tamil Nadu received very good rain activities. Since then Monsoon is subdued over the state. The first half of November saw almost no rains. Rains picked up over the region since November 14 onward. Although, Chennai has failed to receive any heavy spell of rain till now.
