A fresh spell of rain and thundershowers is all set to lash the plains of Northwest India this weekend. After being dry for last few months, this would be second consecutive week for Northern plains to witness rains.
According to Skymet Weather, scattered light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected to lash Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana and parts of Delhi NCR during the next 24 to 48 hours.
Few places of Punjab and Haryana could also witness few spells of hail storm as well.
A fresh Western Disturbance has started affecting Jammu and Kashmir and has also induced a cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining areas. Both the system will be gradually moving in east direction towards the Indian mainland.
Moreover, southwesterly winds from Arabian Sea will increase the moisture content over the plains of North India.
Both the systems coupled together will initially start giving rain over Punjab, Rajasthan and parts of Haryana Saturday afternoon onwards. Weathermen predict that intensity and spread of rain activity will increase as the day proceeds.
By Sunday, the rain belt will also cover parts of Delhi-NCR. However, intensity will not be as much as over the other areas.
Meanwhile, these upcoming rains are likely to curtail the rise of maximum temperatures, which have been settling well above normal since the last week.
