Rains in North India to reduce fog across Delhi, Amritsar, Lucknow, Hisar

In the past 24 hours, the intensity of fog has reduced over most parts of Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. However, isolated stations of these mentioned states were still affected by dense fog on Tuesday morning.

Today morning,  Lucknow reported very dense fog with visibility dropping to mere 50 meters. Meanwhile, Amritsar and Sriganganagar continued with nil visibility conditions.

Meanwhile, the national capital was much better today as Delhi witnessed clear sky with visibility of up to 600 meters. Rest of the areas of northwestern plains witnessed better visibility conditions.

The reason for this decreased intensity of fog could be attributed to the approaching of Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir and its induced cyclonic circulation over Pakistan and adjoining areas. Under the impact of these weather systems, clouding has increased over Punjab, parts of Haryana and West Rajasthan.

Moreover, rise in minimum temperatures by two to three degrees was also witnessed across these states as the dry northwesterly winds are being now replaced with humid southeasterlies. In fact, winds have also picked up pace now.

Meteorologist at Skymet Weather expects the fog to reduce across the northwestern plains of India including Delhi-NCR. For the formation of fog, light winds and low minimum temperatures are both essential and as of now, both these factors are lacking over the region.

Further, we may expect Punjab, parts of Haryana and North Rajasthan to receive scattered rains during the next 24-48 hours. Isolated rain is also possible in Delhi-NCR by November 15. As a result, the intensity of fog will further lessen but shallow fog or mist cannot be ruled out.
