Rains in Nagpur, Wardha, Akola, Buldhana to continue, drain out excess water

The entire state of Maharashtra is currently witnessing a rain surplus. In fact, the Vidarbha subdivision has received fairly widespread rains with few heavy spells.

Rainfall over Konkan has reduced however light rains continue to lash the region. On the other hand, rains over Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada have become scanty with almost dry weather conditions prevailing over the region.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Mahabaleshwar witnessed 66 mm of rains, Gondia recorded a whopping 51.7 mm of rains, Nagpur 44 mm, Buldhana 27 mm, Yavatmal 14 mm, Chandrapur 12.2 mm, Ahmednagar 1 mm, Akola 6.6 mm, Dahanu 6 mm, Amravati 12.6 mm, Aurangabad 2.1 mm,

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, moderate to heavy rainfall activity is expected to continue over Vidarbha region. These rains will occur due to the effect of the depression over Jharkhand and adjoining areas. Madhya Maharashtra will continue with subdued rains for the next few days. Meanwhile, light rains with few moderate showers are expected to continue over Konkan for another 48 hours.

Thereafter, rains will further reduce over Konkan and only light rains will continue. Temperatures will remain in the comfortable range over the lower and mid-30s over the entire state of Maharashtra.

Heavy rains likely in Nagpur, Akola, Gondia, Amravati, Wardha, Buldhana, Bhandara, Mahabaleshwar. Meanwhile, rains will remain moderate over Ratnagiri, Vengurla, Raigad, Sindhudurg. Mumbai rains will remain light.

At this stage, let us see the impact of this weather on the agriculture belt of Maharashtra:

Farmers in Vidarbha are advised to drain out excess water from standing crops wherever necessary. Farmers are also recommended to complete sowing of cotton, maize, etc and to continue transplanting of rice.

Farmers can also undertake intercultural operations (weeding/hoeing) in early sown crops after a current spell of rain. In Madhya Maharashtra, farmers are recommended to drain out excess water from Kharif crops such as Soybean, pearl millet, cotton, pigeon pea and maize, vegetables and orchards and also undertake thinning to maintain optimum plant population. Farmers of Konkan region are advised to take care of fruit plants to avoid the incidence of different pest and disease.
