July 30, 2018 12:45 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Most parts of Maharashtra have become dry now. In fact, on the last day, nothing apart from few isolated showers were recorded in parts of the state. These isolated spells were mostly reported in parts of South Konkan, adjoining Madhya Maharashtra, and Vidarbha. Marathwada, North Madhya Maharashtra and North Konkan on the other hand, remained mainly dry.

In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Sunday, Mumbai’s Santa Cruz Observatory recorded 3 mm of rains, Gondia 5 mm, Mahabaleshwar 0.5 mm, and Satara witnessed 0.2 mm of light spells.

This drop in the rainfall activity has also affected the rainfall performance of all the divisions. As on July 29, Konkan division is rain excess by 27%, Vidarbha by 16%, and Madhya Maharashtra is in excess of rains by 15%. However, Marathwada has seen been affected tremendously and form being in excess, now the rains are 4% lesser than the normal.

As of now also, we expect the rains to remain confined to isolated pockets only. Any increase in the rainfall activity over the almost the entire state is not anticipated for at least the next two to three days.

However, isolated pockets of Vidarbha and North Madhya Maharashtra may record some light spells. One or two odd moderate spells may also be a chance over South Madhya Maharashtra and South Konkan division. Marathwada, on the contrary, would continue to remain dry.

At this stage, let us see the impact of this weather on the agriculture belt of Maharashtra:

Farmers of Konkan are advised to apply fertilizers to Kharif crops like Rice, Finger Millet etc Farmers are also advised to apply FYM to fruit plants like Mango, Cashew, Coconut, Arecanut etc.

Farmers of Marathwada region are advised to take weed control after 15 to 20 days of germination and carryout hoeing operation. Follow it by weeding in next 15 days as the competition of crop and weeds can be avoided for air, water, nutrients and sunlight. For farmers of Vidarbha, complete all inter-culture operations within time.
